Another 143 passengers aboard luxury ship tested positive for Covid-19
Mumbai: Another 143 passengers on board cruise ship Cordelia have tested positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai in addition to 60 others who are already infected with the virus, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said.
Forty-one infected passengers on the ship, who returned to Mumbai from Goa on Tuesday, have so far been transferred to institutional quarantine facilities.
Dr. Mangala Gomare, Chief Health Officer, BMC, told PTI that the civic body received the RT-PCR test reports from the 1,827 passengers on board the ship, who returned to Mumbai from Goa on Tuesday evening, and 143 of them tested positive for Covid19.
According to reports, BMC only disembarked Covid-19 positive people from the ship and did not allow any other passengers to disembark.
A seven-day home quarantine will be mandatory for passengers whose RT-PCR test reports are negative.
So far, 203 people on board the luxury cruise liner have tested positive for coronavirus in Mumbai. Six crew members who had tested positive were disembarked in Goa.
The ship was returned to Mumbai from Goa with all passengers on Monday evening after some of the infected people refused to be admitted to a medical facility there, a shipping agency official had told the news agency. PTI earlier.
Shortly after the cruise liner anchored at a passenger terminal at Ballard Pier in South Mumbai on Tuesday, BMC and police personnel immediately rushed to the scene to facilitate disembarkation of infected people and testing of coronavirus from other passengers.
Adequate police forces have been deployed outside the cruise terminal to avoid any public order issues.
