XO Reports Increase in Shared Private Jet Charters Across the United States

Private aviation provider XO has seen a 99% increase in shared private jet flights between New York and South Florida this year. Chief Commercial Officer Rajat Khurana talks to Globetrender about emerging trends in the US private jet charter market.

How has the pandemic affected XO?

The Covid-19 pandemic has dramatically accelerated the organic expansion that we were experiencing before. XO has seen significant growth in flight and new customer membership requests across demographics and industries.

Some of our new customers have experienced private flying, but many are entirely new to the world of private aviation. We have also seen a significant increase in aviation activity with our past customers, who are increasingly using our private aviation even as more and more Americans get vaccinated.

What changes in the use of private jets have you observed?

XO has seen a huge increase in private jet travel. Our triple-digit growth report includes a 298% year-over-year increase in purchases of our deposit memberships in the first quarter of 2021, including a 170% year-over-year increase from March 2020 to March 2021.

These memberships represent a significant financial commitment and bear witness to the strength of demand. We also saw a 225% increase in shared flight revenue year-over-year in March, and a 120% year-over-year increase in the first quarter, a 39% increase in total shared flight revenue compared to the fourth quarter. of 2020. XO Private JetsTopping the list of the most booked flight destinations for the summer are New York, the Hamptons and South Florida.

In fact, there was a 99% year-over-year increase in shared flights between New York and South Florida. Other top destinations include Los Angeles, Boston, Cape Cod, Aspen, Chicago, San Francisco, Monterey, Santa Barbara and Washington.

What are your predictions for the rest of 2021, 2022 and beyond for private jet travellers?

XO Private JetsPrivate aviation is experiencing and will continue to experience a new era of growth in the final years of this decade, and beyond. Commercial airlines have drastically reduced flights to less populated areas, allowing private aviation to lead the charge with business travel, as they allow flights to all airports in the country.

Clearly, the pandemic has focused businesses on employee health and wellbeing like never before. This combination of reduced commercial options – and a focus on well-being and privacy – will allow XO and its parent company Vista Global, to lead this market transformation with our unparalleled products and technology.

To accelerate this, XO has completely digitized the private aviation experience by providing end-to-end solutions ranging from full private charters to a single shared seat on an existing flight, all at competitive and market-friendly prices.

With the dynamic world we currently live in, it is always difficult to get into the prediction game. However, given XO’s experience, insight, and data from our flier community, we are confident in these predictions. What we are seeing is the emergence of new “flyorities” – behavioral changes that we believe are here to stay.

Some of these changes include how business travelers will fly less and fly better in terms of increased use of remote meetings and travel only when needed. At XO, we saw a 39% increase in business travel in April 2021 because nothing can replace face-to-face meetings.

Another forecast includes an increase in private flights by specific industry segments. For example, at XO, we’ve seen an 80% increase in the entertainment industry, a 40% life in hospitality, and a whopping 300% increase in biotechnology.

The benefits of private aviation – including reduced stress and anxiety for key executives – are independent of industry sectors.

Do you see certain demographics chartering jets for the first time?

XO Private JetsXO has seen an increase in the number of millennials flying private over the past year. Generation Y now represents 25% of first-time rental buyers, which bodes well for the future. We think millennials especially value the on-demand access, seamless experience, and productivity benefits.

What are you doing to win new customers?

XO Private JetsPrivate aviation customers are sophisticated buyers. We earn them for all the reasons that differentiate our service and support, as well as the recent additions to our dedicated fleet. Savvy buyers know the benefits of a dedicated fleet.

XO’s parent company, Vista Global, has announced the addition of 15 Citation light jets to its dedicated fleet, creating an entirely new category of aircraft for the brand. Acquiring these iconic refurbished aircraft represents the answer for anyone looking to meet their short-haul travel needs due to the rise in private travel amid the pandemic.

This move gives our travelers access to a wider range of midsize, super midsize and heavyweight jets. The acquisition also brought trusted aircraft operator Talon Air into our fold, providing aircraft management services to XO members who want to own their aircraft.

The rise of private jet travel has been on a steady incline, and to accommodate new and existing XO customers, the fleet expansion will fill the void for those wishing to travel to destinations closer to their fingertips.

What innovations are you currently promoting?

XO offers members the opportunity to offset the carbon emissions of their flight, with 100% of your contributions going to climate action projects around the world. Each time a flight is booked through the XO mobile app or website, it is possible to purchase certified carbon credits, i.e. a certificate that corresponds to the removal of one metric ton CO2 emissions from the atmosphere.

Private aviation is a great privilege, but it is also aviation that comes with its own set of responsibilities. XO empowers our travelers to take responsibility for the impact of their flight and contribute positively to the communities and environments of some of the destinations we serve.

How have your prices been affected by the pandemic?

Despite the increase in demand for private jets, our prices have remained the same.

XO offers a variety of membership levels – from first-time travelers to jetsetters. Our most affordable and accessible option is the RISE membership, which costs US$595/year. The entry-level program introduces new or inexperienced travelers to the service, flexibility and quality of private travel.
